Pretty In Spots

Spotted! I've never been one for prints. Florals are sometimes a little much for me and normally I would say NO, especially to polka dots. But this year I am challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone every now and then and try something new. So right now, not only am I trying something new and wearing polka dots but I’m trying something new and wearing red. Red is one of those colors that I love because its bright and vivid and looks great on everyone, but is one of those colors that I don’t buy often unless it’s a lipstick. I’m not sure if it’s because I really prefer wearing black all the time or if it’s because I don’t want to stand out....Let’s go with the first one.

It’s not that I always wear black, it’s just that I prefer black over other colors sometimes. But this red polka dot dress that I'm wearing as a top kind of reminded me of spring and I so desperately want spring to be here. I hate complaining about the weather, but warm weather just instantly makes me happy. If it was up to me it would be spring and summer all year long. There are only three things I like about winter and that’s Christmas, Hot Chocolate, and Cute Coats. Other than those exceptions it's not my jam. Spring and summer are my favorite: sunshine, cute dresses, roof tops, sunglasses – all of that is the exact reason I started shopping for spring clothes in February.

I'm not sure if you caught on back there, because sometimes I get on little tangents, but I mentioned that this "top" is supposed to be a dress. *Insert laughing emoji here. * But seriously, I know I'm not the only tall girl that shops at ASOS so good lord could they make some of their dresses just a tad bit longer? I am not out here trying to show "everything" to everybody. I loved this dress when I got it and thought it was so cute but it was entirely too short to wear it as a dress. As a bonus, it didn't help that I got it for such a good deal and I didn’t want to return it. So, I was determined to find the best way to wear this dress. Pairing it with jeans sounds like the easiest thing to do. except when it’s still 20 degrees in Chicago and all my skinny jeans that go above the ankle are still packed away. So it wasn't my first thought. But once I put it together it just screamed spring, and I was so happy.

I could wear this dress as a top because of the style; as it was made to be a faux wrap dress. It cinches right below the bust and the rest is very flowy. If this was a loose dress with jeans it just wouldn't have the same look because it would simply be hanging there. Or if you are ever looking to pair a dress with jeans, look for ones that will still give you shape and ones that maybe hit you mid-thigh. One tip if they are loose dresses or even tops that might have gotten a little too big, get a cute belt tie it around your waist and it that will help add some shape and definition to your look. This top made me so ready for spring when it first came in the mail and I love dressing like spring is coming because in my mind if I dress like spring is here, then maybe it’ll come a little sooner. Who knew a red polka dot dress-turned-top would instantly lighten my mood and make me feel like all this cold and dreariness is ending sometime soon.
