Best Plus Size Winter Jackets

Waking up to snow as a child used to be fun. Knowing that school was cancelled and I could bundle up and play with my friends was the highlight of my winter. As an adult it’s not as much fun to think about snow and the cold because finding a plus size jacket that is going to keep you warm is so difficult. People say jeans are the hardest piece of clothing to shop for, but I’m going to disagree and say coats and jackets are more difficult. To find a coat that is not only warm but somewhat cute has been super difficult now that I am plus size.

I am tired of having to buy a new “winter” coat every year because none of them are well made and warm enough. No one talks about this problem either. We have fit our arms, our backs and still be able to zip it with our sweaters and layers on. This year I made a list of what I was looking for in a coat and decided to start searching. First, it needed it to be warm.  Second, it needed it to have different color options, and at least be somewhat cute. Third, it needed to be a women’s coat. As a plus size woman we normally must result to buying men’s coats because that’s all that’s available. Finally, it needed to be in stock online because I was going to buy immediately and tell all my friends about it.

Lane Bryant has been my go-to store for most of my clothing, but I never thought that I would find a winter coat here. This year and this coat took me by surprise. I went in store to pick up my order, and as I was waiting in line could see they had an entire rack of coats. They looked very heavy duty and the skeptic in me was thinking how looks can be deceiving. I asked to try it on and I was surprised by how thick it was. Not only was it cute and came in 3 colors, but it was also warm. I felt my body start to sweat because I already had on layers before trying on this coat. Then I looked at the price and was shocked - it was only $199. You know Lane Bryant always has a sale or a coupon to use in order to bring down the price a little bit. To my surprise I left the store and thought I found it on the first try. I found a coat that met all of my criteria.

I went home to try and find other brands that might have jackets as well. And to my surprise there were quite a few options currently. This has not always been the case, but one I was glad to see. Columbia, North Face, Canada Goose, Old Navy, Eloquii, and of course Lane Bryant. There are so many ranges in size as well. I didn’t know that a lot of these brands now went up to a 26-28 or 3x-4x, so it seems you can find options no matter your budget.

I decided to buy the Lane Bryant jacket. It checked all the boxes for everything I was looking for, and it was in the budget I was looking to spend. Let’s go through the list one more time: Warm? Check, I was sweating for goodness sake when I tried it on. Cute and colorful? 3 color options and the white was calling my name! Check. Women’s coat? Check. In stock online so I could buy immediately and tell all my friends about it? Check. I am so happy with my purchase and as I am writing this there is so much snow here in Chicago that I might have to go for a walk just to wear it. I linked all the coats that I was looking at below and if you have any other brands people should check out make sure to leave it in the comments.
