Street Style Looks I would have worn to NYFW

New York Fashion Week was a couple weeks ago and even though we spent it at home watching shows on zoom, I wasn't going to let it stop me from showing off a couple of street style looks I was prepping.

August is prep time to me. It's when I start doing my research, checking out what stores I want to buy from, and what themes all my outfits are going to be. Of course, this year ended up being a little bit different. I couldn’t go all out just to sit in my house, so I decided to take some pieces I already had and dress them up how I would have worn them. So, let's get started:

1. If I could live in Brown, Tan, and Cream I probably would. These tones are everything and monochromatic looks are so chic. I wanted to take the idea of a monochromatic look and make it a little more street style, because that's my thing. I love adding texture like leather, prints, or boots to outfits to change them up and give them a bit of edge – and that's exactly what I did. I took a simple cream dress from the Lorna Luxe x In The Style collection and paired it with a brown bustier from Eloquii and a pair of brown leather cargo boots that match the top really well. It’s like they were made for each other. It's feminine and cute, with a little edge. I love it. Probably one of my favorite looks. This look also got featured in Instyle Magazine which is really cool.

2. All Black Everything; you can't go wrong with a little black dress. So, let's add some texture tights, give it a boot, and call it a win. Black blazer dresses are a must; they add a structured but sexy suit feel that, personally, I love. But just the blazer dress would have been a little boring. So I added these great Eloquii houndstooth tights which are perfect for fall – I wish the print came up a little bit more, but for $10 that's nothing to harp over – a pair of suede black booties, and some accessories. This look needed a unique sunglass frame and a bag with some hardware. This brought the entire look together. Could I have gotten away with just the dress and the boots? Yes. But it's fashion week, let’s have some fun.

3. The 90’s are calling and I'm picking up that phone. The 90’s are everywhere, they are all over fashion, all on my Netflix, and the matte makeup looks are all over Instagram. So instead of running away let's embrace it. Give me all the distressed denim and over sized shirts and let's have some fun. This year was the year to throw it back and so when I found this acid wash denim mini-skirt I knew I had a look on my hands. I paired it with this balloon sleeved pink top, and bam – I think we did something. The colors work so well together, and it just screams 90’s to me.

This wasn't my ideal fashion week. But planning this shoot was so much fun and it got me out of a creative rut. That’s what I love about fashion week: you can put the most seemingly random pieces together and create a look, because at the end of the day fashion is what you make it not what people tell you to wear.
